Employee Spotlight: Laura Terry, Designer

For over a decade, Laura Terry has created space planning solutions that transform homes to meet evolving family needs and foster inviting atmospheres for entertaining. She enjoys collaborating with homeowners from the initial concept to the final touches, helping turn a house into a dream home. We’re excited that Laura joined Perspective Cabinetry & Design in August 2025 as a Designer, bringing her creativity, collaborative approach, and passion for thoughtful design to the team.

Was there a moment when you realized this was your career path?

“I took the long route to get to this career, but subconsciously I’ve always known that I wanted to design and create beautiful spaces. After high school, I was accepted to one of the best interior design programs in the country, but turned it down to attend a large university closer to St. Louis, earning a BS in Hospitality Management from the University of Missouri. Years later, I realized I wasn’t satisfied working in that field, so I decided to go back to school to graduate with an AAS in Interior Design from St. Louis Community College. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.”

What experiences outside of design influence your work the most?

“I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to countries all over the world, and I always come home feeling inspired. I’ve seen the colorfully tiled buildings of Portugal, the marble monuments in Italy, the intricate textures in Tunisia, and the modern lines of Japan. Each country has its unique aesthetic, and it’s so fun trying to incorporate some of those elements into a new design.”

What is your process when starting with a new client?

“When I meet with a new client, my first task is to listen and understand their reasons behind starting their project. I want to understand what they want to accomplish and how I can help them achieve their goals. Once that has been determined, it becomes a fun conversation of shared ideas.”

How do you guide clients through overwhelming choices, like materials, finishes, and layouts?

“I try to make the selection process more palatable by focusing on one material at a time. Determining which material will be the center of attention makes the rest of the selection process seem less daunting. Once it’s decided on whether the focal point is a certain wood grain, pop of color, or tile pattern, the other materials organically fall into place.”

What part of the design process do you enjoy most?

“The collaboration and the exchange of ideas with clients is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the job. I never tire of seeing the excitement on their faces in anticipation of their new space. Knowing that I helped create a transformative space in their home is endlessly rewarding.”

What’s a design challenge you particularly enjoy solving?

“I love a good space planning puzzle. When a client brings me an oddly designed space, I really enjoy coming up with layouts that offer better flow and functionality. I’ll often work on several layouts until I feel like I’ve come up with the best solution.”

What’s a transformation you’re especially proud of?

“It’s not necessarily one particular project that comes to mind that makes me most proud, but rather the positive reaction I receive when I present an idea on how to transform a space that the client hadn’t considered before.”

What do you want every client to feel when they walk into their new space?

“When the construction is complete, I hope every client feels joy and excitement for the memories they’ll create in the new space. I hope they have a sense of satisfaction knowing that they invested in their future comfort.”

How do you express your personal style in your own home?

“I do not shy away from using color in my own home. I love incorporating patterns with wallpaper and creating gallery walls with art collected on my travels. My furniture is a blend of antique store finds and more contemporary pieces.”

What inspires you outside of work?

“I enjoy challenging myself to learn a new skill. I’ve taken classes on how to make stained glass art and taught myself how to refinish furniture. I try to keep the creativity flowing by working with my hands and pushing myself to try new things.”

What drew you to join Perspective Cabinetry & Design?

“The supportive and welcoming environment is what drew me to Perspective. It’s more than just a place of business; it’s a caring community.”

What excites you most about working with the team?

“What excites me most about this team is the amount of experience and knowledge I have to draw from. Each designer is so talented and willing to share their expertise. It’s such a collaborative team that makes us all stronger designers.”
